Shallow Knowledge Of Woven Fabric, How Much Do You Know?
Apr 23, 2019
I often hear many friends ask what is woven and what is knitting. As a textile industry practitioner, I will share with you a shallow knowledge about woven fabrics today.
The so-called woven fabric is a fabric that is woven by the looms in the form of picking and weaving the warp direction and the weft direction of the yarn, and is vertically warp and traverse. Woven fabrics are widely used in the sewing of various garments and accessories or bedding. Woven fabrics have plain, twill, satin and their varying texture.
1. Plain weave, the simplest kind of tissue, interlaced with warp and weft yarns. Nowadays, many classic sunburst strips and some dyed woven fabrics are mainly plain.
2. Twill, mainly used in casual wear and some bedding. The woven fabric after twill weaving and brushing can be sewed into the flannel shirt or coat that we normally wear. The twill is not just left oblique or right oblique, and there are many herringbone oblique tissues.
3. Satin, high-grade fabric with more satin texture, such as high-end shirt accessories and some bedding. Compared with plain or twill, satin is softer in feel, full and delicate, and very beautiful in gloss.
Woven fabrics include cotton, hemp, chemical fiber, wool, silk and more.
1. Cotton, most shirts and bodywear are all cotton. After being spun into cotton, the fabric is dyed and woven or dyed first. It is easy to keep warm, close to the body, and has good moisture absorption and permeability, but it is easy to wrinkle. However, there are a variety of non-ironing and anti-wrinkle finishing methods, but it can be slightly compensated.
2. Hemp, made of fiber of hemp plants, has good air permeability, high strength and is not easy to be deformed, but the hand feel is rough, and it is generally used for sewing casual wear.
3. Silk, used on high-end shirts and accessories, made of silk as raw material and woven into cloth. Generally, the fabric of pure silk is mainly knitted, and if it is woven, most of it is cotton silk instead of full silk. This kind of cotton silk is light, soft, comfortable and has good gloss. The disadvantage is that it is easy to wrinkle and deform, it is not easy to care, and the color fastness is not very good.
4. Wool is commonly used in some outerwear or casual wear in spring and autumn. The woven fabric of cotton-wool blend is commonly used on shirts. The hand feels soft and elastic, and the warmth performance is good, but the same has the disadvantage that it is easy to shrink and difficult to take care of.
5. Chemical fiber, a chemical fiber, divided into natural and synthetic. The woven fabric woven with chemical fiber fiber has a fresh color, soft texture, and is not easily deformed, but its gas permeability is very bad. Many people will feel suffocating and not absorbing moisture after wearing it. However, because of its low price, many units of tooling will use cotton and chemical fiber blended fabrics for tooling.
Now, in addition to these common tissues and ingredients, it is also designed with various yarn thicknesses and different densities in the warp and weft, and various forms of jacquard technology to form different styles of woven fabrics.
